- “The truth is that China is a rogue state just as bad as Russia or Iran, and I just don't understand why we're sucking up to them rather than standing up to them as we should be, I think that we should consider sanctions on China, not rolling out the red carpet.” he said.
- Investment by Beijing in Britain's first UK nuclear power plant in a generation is expected to be confirmed as part of what the government hopes will amount altogether to £30bn of agreements.

Was this bloke born yesterday?

The Chinese narrative is hard for Westerners to accept. All these tolerant people who can accept men doing men but not Chinese doing well for themselves. Yes, yes, free Tibet, and a lot of other things.

Can confirm. I'm embarrassed.

Lets sanction everyone!

Hasn't Hilton heard?
Everything is for sale in boooooming Britain.

I can't think of anyone I'd rather have in charge of our nuclear power industry than China and the French

At least they're trying to do something.
The last Labour Government seemed to dislike making Infrastructure decisions. A less than perfect policy is better than no policy - I would include Hinckley Point in that.

not sucking up to them would be a national disaster

The whole spectacle has been utterly nauseating. I'm sure the people of Redcar are enjoying the sight of us rolling out the red carpet for the nation that caused them to lose their jobs.

As always, it's all about the money

Humiliating the UK and its population must surely have been every government's objective since the 1970s? Or why else have they been doing it?

With friends like Hilton and Ashcroft, who needs enemas?

Well the lyrics to 'Rule Britannia' will have to be altered anyway.

I don't mind swallowing a bit of pride if it secures the flie of plastic tat into the country for future generations.

The Tories would sell their mums for money

Totally agree. What the hell are these fools doing?
UK doesnt need their cash or in fact any of the influence from a highly questionable regime.
Edimus9981
Well at least we are not sucking up to the yanks for once.

It's ok though to suck up to the USA,the only country to have used nuclear weapons (twice!), who has used chemical weapons in Vietnam and other places, and has invaded sovereign states without proper cause!

Our governments only talk about human rights and democracy when it suits them (i.e. when they are banging the war drums or trying to discredit a regime).

We Brits are too polite and reserved. We should be telling this dodgy Xi Ping that the red carpet is reserved for special guests. No, you can't have 'Chateau vin du pay 1965' at the banquet either, for the same reason.
Here, take this brown bag of leftovers that the corgis turned their noses up at. Maybe you can find a spot in the servants dining area to scoff that crap down.

In the 21st century imposing sanctions on China is a bit like Little Fenwick declaring war on the US. We're no longer in a position to force China to accept opium for its goods instead of hard currency.

Having watched the Chinese leader's introduction and speech on youtube (which included quite a long lead-in) I found it interesting how long our prime minister (and others) had to wait whilst Chinese underlings slowly found their seats in the chamber and eventually Xi. The video was produced by the Chinese, and it didn't make our PM look good

This is a country that invented the steel making process, developed it's own nuclear technology, invented computers the jet engine, supersonic airliners, railways, mass production. We also fought WW2 against totalitarianism, and had a cold war in the name of democracy.
Since then we have pretty much unprotected industries, shifted the production abroad, de-skilled the workforce, destroyed our own means to commercialism (all countries have to have a means of productivity and trade) and now have to go begging cap in hand to a country whose human rights are appalling and doesn't even measure up on democratic accountabilities.
I have absolutely nothing against the Chinese people, but when we cannot even criticise the Chinese regime, taking their money and technology is humiliating and represents a total loss of pride in what we could and CAN do as a nation.
Cameron and his ilk are a fucking walking disaster area.
eyimola
People should be very concerned that a man as unintelligent as this was actually an adviser to the Prime Minister. The idea of rogue States is casual liberal racism, especially when you consider the history of the Western countries who keep banging on about this.
cheveguara
The whole thing has been the most disgusting display of arse licking I have ever seen and especially the arse of a fascist human rights abuser with absolutely no mandate to govern. Cameron and co have set a new low in international PR and the Chinese will be frankly laughing about this in private. As I write this three hundred Chinese human rights lawyers have been rounded up and thrown into jail as well as hundreds of Tibetans who want freedom and the right to revere the Dalai Lama.

Haha, just a little! Televised state dinner with the Queen and all. Slllllurp!
