5. [Joseph Margraff] Rubio: I will tear up the Iran nuclear agreement and reimpose sanctions on Iran. Is he also going to break the no invasion of Cuba pledge, put missiles into Turkey once again and end all the nuclear proliferation agreements. Then too he should ask Congress to repeal SS, Medicare, Medicaid. unempolyment insurance and food stamps.. Hewill act like the "mean little kid" on a tv comedy show.

6. [Aki Bola] $100B and 20 criminals exchanged for 4 innocent people. Same negotiating team that swapped 5 Taliban commanders for one deserter? Incompetence.

12. [Michael Holloway] After more than 2 hours, still no report about this on Fox News web site. Takes that long to spin it.
18. [Hillary GunRunner] Obama is selling Guns to Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Jordan.
They are sharing these Guns with ISIS and other Sunni Proxies in Syria/Iraq.

19. [Clayton Spangenber] The Obama regine can't understand the concept of a "one-to-one" ratio - they get one prisoner for one of ours - period. If we find them coming back at us - summary death penalty on the spot.
Secretary of State John Kerry has announced that the economic sanctions against Iran have been lifted as four U.S. citizens were released by the Middle Eastern state as part of a prisoner swap.

Kerry said today that Iran has met its obligations to the U.N. atomic watchdog and that the sanctions have now been lifted as per promises made in the landmark nuclear agreement.
Netizen comment

1. [Ava Grundell] President Obama ignores his critics and just keeps doing his job, successfully working on behalf of Americans. He is truly a man of character, strength and integrity. I will sorely miss his patient, persistent and intelligent stewardship of our nation. He is a true patriot. Thank you President Obama.

2. [exerda] But wait--I thought Obama was the worst negotiator ever because he didn't get these four released as part of the nuclear deal. You mean he was still negotiating in the background?! Can't be!
Seriously, conservative hawks are insane. I heard one yesterday saying he had "almost" hoped the Iranian navy would have opened fire on our soldiers. There is no end to the lunacy of the neocon hawks who want to punch every other kid on the block, all the time.

3. [The Dancer] I thought Trump and Cruz were part of the exchange. Dang, they aren't! This deal sucks.

4. [Capt. Haddock]
Con logic:
"We want our people back! Obama is a failure!"
"Obama got our people back! He is a failure!"
I don't think they realize how feckless and stupid they really look.....

5. [Interstate36] The international media is already calling this an historic change in Iranian relations with the West. The BBC just reminded it's listeners of why Obama got the Nobel.

6. [Barnes23] Iran has dismantled it's reactor core and filled it with concrete,.. it has released 10 American sailors who drifted into Iranian territory without drama in less than 24 hours and has now released 4 American prisoners from Iranian jails.
Barack Obama,.. worst President EVER!!! LMAO. Riiiiiiighhht.

7. [ApolloEleven] With all roadblocks republicans put for Pres. Obama, still he managed to be successful. We will miss this man terribly.

8. [A D M] Another example of how Mr. Obama's quiet diplomacy works better than fearmongering and warmongering. Congrats Mr. President.
On the other hand, I just saw a news bit showing that idiot Ted Cruz "thankful" and "praising God" for the release of these people. I guess he is desperately trying to put his mask back on his ugly face after exposing his true character of an ignorant, arrogant, divisive lonely bug. Please stay away from New York, you are not welcome to come to mainstream America.

9. [Interstate36] Another day, another Obama victory, another good day for America, and another day of outrage for conservative wingnuts.

10. [fxowen] If Trump was president, Jason Rezaian wouldn't even be allowed back in the country because he's a Muslim.

11. [jimsteinberg1] Hooray for our 21st century President Obama. Diplomacy, progress, freed American captives, nuclear agreement, war forestalled. All good!

12. [DCSportsfan] I'd like to take the time to thank all the conservative wing-nut trolls that post here. Give them a hand folks! Was talking with a WaPo writer not too long ago he said that's part of what brings in income so they don't discourage it.
The WaPo is a great publication and if Jason Rezaian is a returning journalist this is fantastic news. I'm looking forward to all his future articles and what he has to say about what happened.

13. [Richard]
So, the almost immediate release of the 10 U.S. sailors who had drifted into Iranian waters and the release today of Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian and three others is just more proof of the "feckless" Barack Obama's "failed foreign policies."
A real American Exceptionalsim Apartheid Republican though would have bombed the sh*t out of Iran, immolated tens of thousands of its people and turned their land into "glowing sand."

14. [Manchester0913] Obama and Kerry prove the benefit of negotiation. Wing-nut heads explode. Bravo, Mr President!

15. [mollyjb] Obama will go down in history as one of the best Presidents in the country. This agreement to prevent Iran from developing nuclear bombs for at least 15 years and the release of American prisoners just adds to his stature.

16. [Nile Quirks] Those who claim Obama's a failure since Iran didn't release them without conditions don't live in the real world. In the real world, the US doesn't say "jump" and the countries of the world ask "how high?" It's never been that way, not under Republican presidents, either

17. [Certainlyso] The photo ops in the Rose Garden (weather permitting) of their return will drive the conservatives into another rage. No doubt. Please have pacifiers and Depends at the ready for them, Mr. President.

18. [fxowen] Judging by the comments here, the only country that Trump supporters hate more than Iran is America.

19. [dcostello] God are the conservatives going nuts on this trying to spin this negatively. It is hilarious. No doubt the timing of this swap was designed within the Agreement and Obama/Kerry were man enough to take the criticism knowing this was coming. Check mate--again

20. [grahamnsmith] Great. Can someone tell Fred Hiatt to calm down now? Seems like quiet diplomacy has accomplished more than his saber rattling ever could. And delinking the nuclear agreement from the prisoner release negotiations was wise. Fred Hiatt can go pound sand

21. [Open Mind DC] First the repuglicans..complained it didn't happen. Now they will complain that it did. Vote better people.

22. [Insider9909] Once again, statesmanship and diplomacy win over stupidity and bullying. Republicans would have us involved in blowing up the world. Thank God they will not win the White House for many generations to come.

23. [Peter120] Great news! Thank you President Obama and John Kerry!
Please tell wingnut neocons McCain, Trump and miserable Ted Cruz that THIS is the art of political negotiation!

24. [RRaccoon] Obama gets it done despite the cons trying to derail everything he does that is good for Americans. One of the best Presidents in my lifetime.

1. [ned stark42] If George W. Bush was compelled to invade ANYBODY in 2003 over WMD's, maybe it should have been the country which actually had them, North Korea, instead of the country which didn't, Iraq.

2. [DavidM in Cal] "North Korea says it has tested its first hydrogen bomb."
I'm going with "Liar, liar, pants on fire" for this one.

3. [TimTEC] So while Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld were invading the wrong country and getting 4000 American soldiers killed for nothing, they let North Korea go full nuclear. And now you expect Obama to clean up the mess? Conservatives are all hysterical about Iran, who has no bombs, but not a peep about the real nuclear threat. Where was the GOP hysteria when it really mattered?

4. [r56663219] This isn't about which party caused this problem, ALL parties struggle to work with this xenophobic, know-nothing, power-hungry, control-the-populace-with-fear, go-it-alone-and-allies-be-damned country. It's a good reason to not let our country go down the same path.

5. [USMC1954] No matter if it's true or false, it must be Obama's fault.
I'm sure before the week is up there will be some kind of blame cast at Obama by one or more of the clown bus.

6. [The Penquin] If only Bush and Cheney were back in charge. Those were the days when North Korea feared and respected America. I think the president's fighter ace costume played a big part in that. And the Bush administration's military victories, of course.

7. [DaveinDallas] It's amazing that many of the posters below seem to think PRNK is a more reliable source for information than the White House. It really a sorry state of mind to be in when anybody would take the word of that crackpot regime over the findings of our experts.

8. [bestchoice] North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un makes many unbelievable, provocative statements. For some reason he reminds me of Donald Trump.

9. [PennyWisetheClownRedux] Let's see if i can take a wild guess on what is going on in the dwarf kingdom--peers into crystal ball and see's that winter is setting in and the dwarfs screwed up their grain harvest again and see that it is time to blackmail the west (again) into giving them food aide to keep their population from rebelling. My crystal ball also says that they do not have the technology to create a hydrogen bomb and used up one of their nuclear weapons to blackmail the west.

10. [K_Kaprow]
FIRST IRAN AND NOW NORTH KOREA! IMPEACH OBAMA!!
--Republicans

11. [4blazek] Whether N Korea did test an H-bomb or not it is unlikely the American people will know until it is late in the game. The reason, who is the least trustworthy? N Korea or the Obama Administration...

12. [Jarhead1979] We need to send Ambassador Rodman over there immediately.

13. [TomSixGunDrawHombre]
NORTH KOREA - SOLUTION
Put Barak on TV to cry about it.
PROBLEM SOLVED !

14. [ITBFAN] China could end this tyrannical punk's rule very quickly but fears a unified, pro-US Korea. The tyranny in the North and Kim's dangerous nuclear games will continue so long as China plays its short-sighted policy of keeping this regime on life support.

15. [Mrwsmith] We should take thousands of buckets of Colonel Sanders finest KFC to the DMZ and use really huuuuuge fans to blow the smell North. This could produce millions of defectors. Problem solved.

16. [Delong] But Obama cried to make felons out of fathers who give hunting rifles to their daughters and sons. Such is the liberal priorities.

17. [Petronius_Jones]
The Chinese are outraged about this and stepping back a bit and letting Beijing handle it for now is probably best. Don't forget that China was so angry about the last North Korean test that they voted with America in the UN Security Council for sanctions on North Korea that were supposed to make new tests very difficult for Kim. For whatever reason, he's willing to make his only real ally very very angry. His missiles can't hit America. They can hit Beijing.

18. [KillerAngels]
Bubba gave North Korea nukes.
B. Hussein will give Iran nukes.
Irrefutable facts.

19. [RickyGibson] THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING! LET'S TUNE IN TO FOX NEWS FOR THE REAL SCOOP!

20. [Giedi Prime]
"North Korea has the H-bomb because their leaders are smart. Our leaders are stupid, that's why we don't have an H-bomb." Trump

"Eh, sir, there's no proof they have an H-bomb, and we've had one for half a century."

"You're fired."

21. [nophonycons_CA] If you let the GOP into this, you might actually get N. Korea to launch an attack on South Korea, and kill a few million people. Now that will be par for the cons' and GOP course.

22. [TomSixGunDrawHombre]
The US continues to be defeated by "strong" nations like Afghanistan's goat herders.
Quite embarrassing, actually.

23. [Spencer99] i blame global warming for this, just like what happened in paris. if we reduce carbon emissions, we will stop nuclear proliferation.
It is a shame they don't protest like this when Muslim terrorists kill non- Muslims.

Sceptical Dog, is sceptical, Australia
Saudi-sceptics like myself have been saying for a long time that Saudi and ISIS law are almost inseparable. But i do find it a bit hypocritical of Iran to get so upset about the execution of people with oppositional opinions.
Iran executed a man few days ago because he wrote a poem opposing the Iranian regime. Al Nimr is a well known terrorist and deserved to die like the pig he is. Root in hell you wont be missed terrorist
Saudi Arabia is a criminal pariah state. Kick them out of the security council and boycott their oil.

Citizen of the world, Everywhere, Wallis And Futuna
I am beginning to wonder if USA is trying to start a war between the Sunni and the Shia muslims. After the muslims have killed each other, USA will get the oil and Israel will get a lot of land in the Middle East.

PB, Atlanta
Well, 2016 is shaping up to be worse than 2015 in terms of violence and unrest. Why are so many people so corrupted in their dismissal of the value of human life? It's unbelievable how much death and destruction has become commonplace in the world.

Pot calling the kettle black. All these nut-jobs are the same.

Two terrorist supporting countries in friction with one another. Go to war and wipe each other outside. You will do the rest of the world a favour.
I fear 2016 will see the world change as we know it for the absolute worst :(

President Obama's San Bernardino/ISIS Address

President Barack Obama used his Sunday night address on terrorism to reassure the American people that the San Bernardino shootings last week appear to be an isolated incident, despite one of the killers pledging allegiance to ISIS.
Americans must not take out their grievances with the fanatics on followers of Islam, he said.
'Muslim Americans are our friends and our neighbors are coworkers, our sports heroes. And yes, they are our men and women in uniform who are willing to die in defense of our country,' the president said, speaking from the Oval Office. 'We have to remember that.'
Whether you are for or against this, its an awful situation. The world needs to unite to eradicate ISIS. These monsters need to be stopped. I fear it won't be as simple as bombing Syria as ISIS members are every where. The UK hadnt been attacked by them yet as we werent bombing Syria. Now that we are I fear for what they may attempt to do to our country! Saying that, Im sure it would only have been a matter of time before they attacked us anyway. Prayers are now with all those innocent people who will be caught in the crossfire.
President Vladimir Putin signed a decree imposing a raft of punitive economic sanctions against Turkey on Saturday, underlining the depth of the Kremlin's anger toward Ankara four days after Turkey shot down a Russian warplane.
"Nobody has the right to traitorously shoot down a Russian plane from behind, but Russia can shoot down commercial airliners at will.
The American
Turkey really spanked Putin on this one. Amazing how two insignificant little countries like Ukraine and Turkey can stick it to Putin.

zisbal
Turkey should just deny that it shot down the Russian jet. Putin understands that rhetoric.

→ PK
Good point!

So Ridiculous
Somehow lost in this incident is that Russian planes in Syria were caught a few times locking their radars onto non-threatening Turkish planes inside Turkey before this happened. The Russians seemed to be pushing for a fight and they got one alright.

Wolfowitz Doctrine
Russia should nuke Turkey out existence so that NATO will not have to come to Turkey's defense because Turkey will not BE anymore.

Delegator
Does Putin being "mobilized" mean that his shirt is off?

andreas
Turkey violates the Greece every day. NATO and EU is aware of this. Where are the rules of engagement? Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, and 18% of the population occupied half of Cyprus. Is this justice?

Paku
This Joker is full of himself. Who does Russia think they are? They can violate the airspace of anybody with out any type of repercussions, invade their neighbors and lie about it and think all is ok because they are Russia are mistaken! It is time to show Putin that his gangster intimidation will not be tolerated and that they will pay for their aggressive behavior! They think they can tell the free world how things will be and it is time for the free world to stand up to these thugs with their autocratic, suppressive mentality!

Marjus
Lol, I'm having fun imagining a toy robot Putin 'fully mobilizing' and ripping off his shirt in anger after someone winds him up. Oh man too funny. His lying clown Peskov accusing others of 'theater of the absurd' is priceless. I suggest a mirror Peskov, or should I call you Moscow Bob? Also at least Turkey put out a digital radar track map. Russia put out a paper map with a line drawn in MS paint on it, that too was priceless.

CHARLES P
Putin is still stuck in Ukraine , Turkey is 10 times more powerful than Ukraine plus they have nuclear weapons backed up by the US air force . Putin can cry all he wants , he is just mad that Turkey put that foot up his #$%$! To hell with Putin and all of those stupid Russians .

Stephen
Only a very insecure country would over react the way Russia is tantruming. Russia shouldn't infringe on another countries border over and over again without suffering the consequences. Russia seems to be acting like an immature little bully that finally got smacked for
having got caught for having their hands in the cookie jar. Mr. Putin, admit and apologize for shooting down the plane over Ukraine. The world needs an apology Mr. P

Jason
Throw Turkey out of Nato and invite Russia to join. Turkey supports Muslim extremists and your perception of Russia comes from the white guilt liberal media.

Otto The Great
Putin knows revenge is a dish best served cold. He will now tighten the screws slowly on the rack rather than strike Turkey with a single, decisive blow.

Russia has constantly violated the airspace of its neighbors over the past few years and when one of them finally reacts to it, they act like they're the victim. It's absurd.

DanielP
Fact: Turkey supports ISIS. That is what this is about. Hopefully, this incident will show Turkey to stay out of Syria so the problems there can be dealt with more effectively. Turkey hates Assad and the Kurds and they benefit from black market oil from ISIS - we're talking full scale alignment of interests between Turkey and ISIS and that MUST stop. Nato has to be aware of what is going on and make it clear to Turkey they will not support Turkish endorsement of terrorism.

John Zarivny
Russia is a hypocrite it violated international borders with impunity in Georgia and Ukraine. Turkey warned Russia on several occasions and was ignored. I doubt Russia would sit still if Turkish plane violated Russia's borders. In the past Russia shot down passenger planes for straying off course into Russian air space.

James
Next time Russia stay out of others air space. They've been doing it for as long as I remember off of Alaska and other places where they have no business being. Of all countries it is Turkey that had the balls to call them on it. For all their bluster the Ruskies are still just a gas station in the middle of the woods. An economy less than the size of California. Typical Bullies.

snood
Since it works both ways, will Putin state that overflights of Russian territory by other nations are OK?

sam
The sultan's time to be dethrone has arrived. His party's platform of zero belligerency with neighbors is a joke. Turkish people deserve better. Religion and politics don't mix.

Truth
Erdogan is a fanatical muslim terrorist and ANYONE or any alliance supporting him is ALSO a terrorist organization or alliance. Turkey MUST be kicked out of NATO right away if it wants remain relevant and have any moral standing in fighting evil muslim terrorists in the world.

wes 1
It is as if Russia doesn't have more planes and pilots: you going to play, at some point you are going to pay. In all my 60 years of life, I' never recall Russia being the aggressor in any action-because they are saints!

Jim Preston
A nation that has shot down 3 civilian airliners killing about 700 people and overflies their neighbor's airspace routinely even after warnings is #$%$ because finally another nation had the courage to shoot down their bomber. Russian hypocrisy and arrogance. Go Turkey!

PERSEUS
I'm afraid that Russia is guilty of the same dirty deeds . Let look at what they did in the Crimea and eastern Ukraine ? Russia said they were protecting the Russian speakers in Crimea and eastern Ukraine by supporting the rebels , and what did they do Shot down airliner !!!

Carl Rove
You're worried about Assad ? . . . while a Terrorist like Erdogan is waving ISIS flags in Plain Sight.
~
I hope the Russian's destroy Turkey and deal its Terrorist Leadership a death blow of their lives !!!

Ben 1
The plane was shot down in Syria. When trying to decide which side is telling the truth, you have to use the facts. It would make the west's story more believable if they shot the plane down inside Turkey airspace.

ROPO 13
The little Dictator Putin needs a reminder that Turkey is a NATO member and they will crush Russia if attacked.
Turkey has no business being in NATO as it is one of the most repressive countries on the planet. The US continues to arm these evil despots and eventually it is going to bite us in the butt.
Apart from this article, haven't seen much news in the Western media about Erdogan's son being in the oil business and his son-in-law being the energy minister.

August
Russia has been "buzzing" other country's aircraft and violating 'air-space' for yrs.
Russia has been warned by many; esp Turkey.
Turkey finally said, enough is enough.
You violate our 'air-space', you ignore our warnings to chg your flight pattern. you will suffer the consequences.
Bloviation...(did I spell that right?) These guys talk and talk. They talk big, tell everyone that they are the big dogs, and how bad they are going to make it for the other guy. But it's not as simple as it seems. Every country on the globe is intertwined with every other country is one way or another. The elimination of any one will make a drastic change on all. There will be a huge set of outrageous B.S. then it will all go away.
Everywhere the USA and GB interfere there are explosive repercussions. Should have shut up, stuck to looking after British people and left Assad and Hussein to deal with the fanatic barbarians that infest their countries. Hussein has gone, and look at the mess now. Putin told the USA and GB not to interfere with Syria's government, and now look at the carnage, the mass migration, and the constant threat in major capitals. The victims are always the citizens, and never the unbelievably dumb politicians, especially those thick idiots in Washington who can't win a single war they enter into despite all their trillions of dollars worth of firepower....constantly beaten by a few thousand barbaric fanatics in cars, trucks and buses using old weapons.
Your mate Putin loved Saddam, Gaddafi and Assad because they were three of his biggest customers. The whole middle east is a tinderbox and always has been. What do the russians do, sell them billions in guns and missiles. If you took all the russian and soviet made weapons out of the middle east they'd be down to pretty much poking each other with pointy sticks and slingshots!
And Europe is opening its doors to these immigrants without really knowing what they are letting in. Every country in the EU must stand shoulder to shoulder with France right now, close their borders, tighten security until it hurts and make it clear we will stand united against their evilness. We have to act whether we want to or not because next time it could be any of us if we dont. My thoughts are with the families of the victims
Hundreds of thousands of 'moderate' so called peace-loving Mo slims recently marched in the streets to protest against the publishing of cartoons which offended their sensitivities. Why are these same people not marching now, when much worse things than cartoons are happening in the world, in the name of their faith?? To read some of these comments I am tempted to think we are all a bunch of idiots. So is Cameron supposed to wait for months for the 'official' crash report and in the meantime keep flying people in & out of an airport which according to all I have read is less than secure? When all the circumstantial evidence points to a bomb on board and IS are also claiming responsibility? We do this because we don't want that nice guy Vladimir Putin to look bad in front of his loyal subjects? Wake up people, Cameron made the right call whether you like him or not
When a plane comes down, one of the first things that an investigator does is look for the four corners and how far they are apart. This imediately gives clues as to whether the plane broke up before or after impact. The wider the debris is spread, the more likely the plane broke up in the air. This is common sense! A bomb usually means that a part or sometimes many parts are scattered away from the main wreckage! I don't think I have to say more as the images above will lead everyone to the correct conclusion!
Egypt is furious that Britain has revealed that they haveintelligence information indicating it was teror because it hurts their tourist business and Russia is furious that England would acknowledge that because it indicates that Pootin got slapped in the face for his interference in a mid east squabble. Neither one of them is furious because anyone is lying. Nor do they contradict it, they just don't want anyone actually mentioning it so they have room for denial. They can dance around the issue all they want. Planes don't just fall out of the air, and when they DO fall out of the air with internal scorch marks and shrapnel holes from metal pieces shooting OUT from INSIDE the plane then the rest of us will draw the obvious conclusions.
I should think Putin would be happy to know it was outside influences at work rather than their own employees at fault or aircraft that wasn't maintained. I believe it was a terrorists bomb, I saw the piece of plane where it was torn outwardly. Isis laid claim to the bomb, what more do you need to know it was them. I don't understand people anymore, everyone is pretending things aren't happening. I can understand Egypt, it's their country that's going down the pan without tourism. Egypt needs to get with the program and clean up their security screening act.
It's only a matter of time before a bomb is sneaked through Heathrow. Last time I went through security, my 3 year old daughter was such a security threat, three security staff and a metal detector were required to frisk a small child in tight fitting t-shirt and leggings. Meanwhile I counted 4 people in disguise with the robes and eyes just showing get waved through with no body scan or pat down. It would be very easy to conceal explosives under those loose fitting garments. I wrote to Heathrow airport security voicing my concerns but they pulled the "can't be seen to be discriminatory" card. Why not scan and pat everyone - then there is no discrimination?!!!!!
Hansjoerg Mueller, of the Alternative for Germany party, said the country was 'sliding towards anarchy' and risks becoming a 'banana republic without any government'.
He made the claims after about 8,000 people joined the anti-Islam Pegida movement for a rally in Dresden over Angela Merkel's decision to allow up to one million migrants into the country this year.
What is Merkel's motivation for bringing in a million muslims in a single year? Imagine the culture shock for both the Germans and the immigrants. Is her policy to Germany's long term benefit? If so, how?

What happens when govt officials, the armed forces, civil servants, etc are told by the the Government to support her measures to ensure settlement, and to oppose German people who stand in the way. But these civil servants etc say "But we agree with the people, we feel the same"? Would a German Army refuse to carry out orders to force Germans out of their homes or villages or do police duties? And Merkel who wanted others to follow her lead has abysmally failed. Other states looking on will be saying No Thanks.
